CARE PACKAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Ask your postal clerk for the FLAT RATE PRIORITY MAIL boxes for your care packages. Look for the specially marked APO/FPO boxes but the regular Flat Rate ones work. Tell them the packages are going to our troops in Afghanistan.
They should give these to you free of charge.
Fill out PS Form 2976-A, the long form, for Customs. The short form PS 2976 will not work. The clerk will help you with customs forms when you mail your package, if necessary.
Be sure to package your items properly. Use plastic bags around any non-solid items in case of a rough trip. The box should be tightly packed to minimize movement in transit.
Include your Name, Mailing Address and Email in each package to allow the Troops to acknowledge your support. Here is a PDF of some enclosure cards from an Avery Template.
