Camp Eggers is a military base in Kabul, Afghanistan.[1] located near the US Embassy and the President of Afghanistan’s Palace. The camp is named after Capt. Daniel W. Eggers, a US soldier from the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina, who was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) along with three other soldiers on 29 May 2004 near Kandahar.
Camp Eggers is used by all U.S. military branches as well as other coalition partners (including Australian Army, New Zealand, Romania, and Germany), and was home to the Combined Forces Command – Afghanistan (CFC-A), and Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan (CSTC-A). CFC-A was dis-established in early-2007 while CSTC-A continues to train the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police and are assisting with provincial reconstruction projects such as school reconstruction and road repair (from Wikipedia).
There are currently over 100,000 soldiers from the US in Afghanistan, many of those at Camp Eggers. Their work day is certainly not like yours or mine. And they definitely can’t drop by Wal-Mart to pick up a few things to help their lives at least seem a little normal. This is where we come in.
The Morale, Welfare and Recreation group at Camp Eggers has created a “store” for snacks and personal items to help the people on the base to make their lives a little easier. Soldier, Sailors, Airmen and Marines all come by to see what is on the shelves and they are allowed to each take up to three items a day, at no cost to them. Many troops come by a few times a day just to see if anything new came in. It is often hard to keep items on the shelves. The “Sundries for Soldiers” Project has been created to help keep those shelves stocked.
Please consider helping us make a soldier’s day brighter, not just once but again and again. Here is how you can get started.
